I was chilling out the other day right after classes and I heard most of my friends talking about parties and dance and how they actually spent their weekends. They went as far as to talk about which sound systems were the best especially in their neck of the woods. I found it really surprising, however, that during the entire conversation not even once was church mentioned.
I got up with a bounce and said, “So what about church?” and the conversation went dead silent. “What about it?” said Frank. Frank went on to state that he doesn’t have to go to church because he is sure that if he gets down on his knees right where he is then the Lord will hear him so church as far as he is concerned is not important.
Dawn said every day she gets up and hear her mother praying and praying and nothing ever happens so where is this God?
I realized that there were Christians who were actually there but choose not to say a word. Sheriel said I went to church last month and it was at a funeral and she ventured further to state that she is not really taking God for granted because she praises him and tells him that she loves him. She, however, is not yet ready to get into the church because she does not want to do anything for her to backslide and right now she is having a good time.
The point of all of this is that the Christian morals and values that used to be instilled in us as young people are not being encouraged in our society anymore. Parents are not going to church so children are not going either. Then we have the parents who are going to church and leaving the children at home to do whatever they feel. There is also the side where the children are given the opportunity to choose whether or not they want to go.
This level of relationship with Christ is causing our society to deteriorate at a rapid pace because our youths who are our future are losing this level of spirituality which would have proven to be a positive thing in their lives. As young people who are Christians, we are not doing enough to encourage our friends we tend to go along with them than to stand out as Christians and kingdom builders.
We need to talk about how much fun we have while we are in church and how great the music sounds when we sing. We need to talk about Christ and how well the food taste that we get at church and all the fun and exciting things that we do when we are there. Our friends are not hearing spiritual things from us but we are hearing from them. Let us, therefore, start to talk to our friends about the church and things concerning Christ as we go from class to class. Let us make Christ exciting.
