An odd question, isn’t it, for a christian publication? No! I’m not desperate for a date, so put your mind at ease. We might think this is a question for potential lovers. But there is one above all who will ask you this question sooner or later and maybe you have already been asked this question by Him. It is so imperative to be ready to answer because when God is ready to move or to use us, we have to be quickly ready to give an answer.
In my experience of walking with the Lord through the years there were many times I was posed this query by Him. The funny thing is: it never seemed like a question most times but more like a command. For me it could simply have been a prompting I would have eventually responded to most times by just moving to the task set before me.
Just yesterday my experience was such that I felt a prompting to go to my parish capital Morant Bay. I hardly go to ‘The Bay’ anymore so it was strange that I felt this urge. I had two persons in mind to visit.
Lo and behold when I did, I discovered they were both deeply burdened. I put on my listening ear and ended up saying some words of encouragement and offered to pray for each of the two. The first reported that as I prayed it was as though a weight lifted off her. She was visibly blessed and I rejoiced in my spirit to know the Lord could have used me in such a wonderful way. The second person was also obviously blessed by the prayer.
There have been times when answering to the question posed by God simply meant taking some food, whether off my trees in my backyard or out of my own grocery bag to someone who was laid on my heart to give to. Just this week I lay down on my bed for about two minutes and suddenly the voice of God spoke to my spirit and said “get going. Pack two little bags and take to these persons.” Whichever way the opportunity comes, it would be good if we purposed in our hearts to say, “here am I. Lord send me!” The blessings that come for obeying God’s voice are innumerable.
So during the course of your busy day, could the Lord be calling you to some act of kindness toward a needing soul? May it be that we will answer the question “are you available?” in the positive. Obedience and sacrifice are always highly rewarded and regarded in God’s grand scheme of things. So purpose that you will answer “yes” The next time He calls. We activate our own blessings by being a blessing ourselves. The reward is sure somewhere down the line. One simple word is all it takes. Say “yes” today.
