Many people have a problem with reading! This for the most part is really sad because when reading does not take place individuals remain ignorant and they will always be lead without having an opinion. When you are not informed it is a given that others will inform you based on their interpretations which might not be necessarily correct.
Reading the bible for Christians should be of utmost importance. There should never be a Christian who never or does not read the bible frequently. This should be a guide for your life as you walk with Christ. How can you say AMEN to anything a pastor says without you reading the bible for yourself?
Jesus said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4. He also says, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the fleshSin is anything that goes against God’s will and His laws. To commit sin is to transgress or disobey these laws. The lust to sin dwells in human nature. In other words, it is contaminated and motivated by the sinful … profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63.
A pastor preaches from this Holy Book and he also guides others based on its teachings. This therefore stands to mean that if he tells you to do something or to adapt a particular life style these teachings must come from the bible as this is the guide. When you do not read it then he can tell or interpret it in any way suited to him to guide your life and you become like “a lamb to the slaughter”. This should not be.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
One of our main job as children of GOD is to evangelize which is to tell people about Christ so that they too can become saved. If we do not read the word how are we going to be able to convince them that this way is the correct way? For the most part other religions spend time studying, reading, interpreting and discussing their Holy book and we should do so as well. We need to be so knowledgeable of the renewing power of the bible that we should be able to tell others so that they too will be guided by it.
