What is trust and how do we trust in God? Trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. In other wards trust is believing the truth about something . It therefore means if we trust God then we will do that which is expected. These things include:
Not depending on ourselves
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding. Most of us are faced with disappointments, which have taught us that we cannot depend on ourselves. In living the life God has given us, we will learn to rest in his understanding while trusting completely. We have to lay aside our own feeling and depend solely on HIM.
Crying out to God
Surrendering to God begins by praising him with our lips and focusing on him. We need to cry out to him. It’s more than being committed to him we need to be totally dependent on him. Cry out to him, acknowledge him and he will show us the way. Proverbs 3:6 In all thy way acknowledge him and he shall direct thy path.”
Run from evil.
Proverbs 3: 7 do not be wise in our own eyes, fear the Lord and shun evil. So much things in this world can clutter our minds in our relationship with God e.g. Lust of the eyes of the flesh and the pride of life. In other words, our blessing can be a stumbling block to us if we think of them as what we deserved or what we need to be happy. We need more than word sto live the life God wants us to live is by separating ourselves from the bad influences that keep dragging us down. God is saying that we must flee from everything that is and appears to be evil. We must live holy. Resisting the devil so we can hear from God.
Put God first in our life
Putting God first simply means giving him control over what we do and do what he asks us to do. We experience joy and happiness when God is at the center of our lives. Giving God the first priority enables us to experience peace in our lives. Knowing that our lives are in the hands of God.
If we be honest, we are not so good in evaluating ourselves. We will find excuses upon excuses for our behavior, our action and our sins.
If we are going to truly trust God and flee evil, we have to know exactly where we stand. We have to find an objective measure that tells us the truth. That truth comes from the word of God. Sometimes it takes bad things to happen to us in order for us to see that we need to change. But the more we spend time in the Bible, the more the change will come. Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Trust the Holy Spirit
As we go through our day, this same Holy Spirit will guide us. That means we don’t have to do it alone or hope we’re getting it right. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth and protects us. After all the gifts of the Holy Spirit reminds us believers that we can truly depend on God. Even in the midst of turmoil, God sticks with us and uses those challenges to shape us and we no longer see our setback as failures. “We see them as moments when God works on us.” And this is exactly when we can trust in the Lord with all our heart. He cares for us every day and gives us all we need to thrive. He pours blessing after blessings on us.
