DISOBEDIENCE

By Marlene MacBean

I was watching a little clip of a movie where this young man was leaving home for church when his mom and sister came out and saw that he didn’t have his Bible with him.  She asked about it and he said he didn’t need it because he had it on his phone, they both insisted that he go back to pick up the Bible but he didn’t.  He was not even dressed like he was going to church.

There was a shootout between the Police and gun men and he walked into it. One of the gun men had on the same color top he had on. They ran in the same direction after they had killed one of the police men and guess what? They ran into the young man going to church stopped him and questioned him.  He said he was going to church and the other question was, “Where is your Bible?” He didn’t have it so they killed him.

Look at this, the police thought he was lying because he had no proof even though he didn’t have any weapon on him. But if he had his Bible he wouldn’t have died.  That would have been his proof of identity and that he was telling the truth. Now this his disobedience to his mom. Right here we see that disobedience causes death even though this can be seen as unfair and cruel.

It is the same in the world today and even in our Christian life, we disobey our families and friends and fall into trouble  even though we may not die.  Disobedience brings a wide variety of horrible consequences such as spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental consequences. Spiritual consequence relates to separation from God and union with Satan. It’s the worst form of consequence that can ever fall upon people since it determines where they will spend their eternity. Physical consequences relate to bad things that can happen to us physically or our lives that can be ended so tragically. Emotional consequences relate to sadness, disappointments, frustration along with irritation.

In our everyday life, God speaks to us and we don’t listen.  He sees the danger that lies ahead of us and tells us not to go or not to do it but instead we do the opposite.  We have our own way. So again we have to bear the consequences.  We cannot blame anyone for our downfall but ourselves for our acts of disobedience.  God is so good that He forgives us.  He gives us an opportunity to make it right, if we get a second chance.  Many don’t. Now we see that it is important to have our bible on when we are going into the house of God. It’s one of our proof of identity as a Christian. Let us remember to be obedient to his word and to His leading.
