There is now a new concept that is evolving and that is the stay at home dad. Based on the urban Dictionary a stay at home dad is “A father who decides to not work outside the home because his wife makes more money. He is responsible for cleaning, food preparation, transportation of the kids to school and soccer. He is also responsible for everything outside the house as well as inside”.
Many fathers are now taking on this role and the question is being asked if this is the right or the wrong direction for a man to take? Should this be a choice or is it that men are now relinquishing their role as the main breadwinner of the home?
Many varied reasons have been put forward as to why this is happening which includes they are unable to find work, they are ill or disabled and the fact that they are going to school or have retired. The fact is that this is
happening and based on the direction that our world is moving in females are becoming so much more independent and are holding their own. Does this still make the man the head of the household or is he now second in command? The verdict is still out on that but it is important to understand that men are quite capable of taking care of the home as well and for those that do, they should be commended.
There are also some advantages of staying home with your children and these include the fact that you develop a closer relationship with your kids, it also improves your relationship at home with the wife and it also gives you a chance to see your life from a different perspective. If daddy being at home helps to stabilise the home this, of course, could be considered quite beneficial and is worth looking into. The bible speaks however in Ephesians 5:21-32
Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even
as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, …
This, therefore, stands to mean if Daddy is okay with this then all should be well regardless of what others may think. This is quite interesting, especially where cultures may see this differently.
I am sure we have our thoughts on this and Youthlove would just love to hear from you.
