THE NARROW PATH TO ETERNAL LIFE

Written by Sean C. Harrison

There are some peculiar things about the narrow path to eternal life which are good to bear in mind. Let’s try to keep these before us as we journey on. It will be good to always keep the following pointers handy.

No Dead Ends

Firstly, there are no dead ends or permanent stops before we reach the destination. There are no detours, closes, avenues or boulevards. It is never paved because it is an ancient path that does not move with the times. The nature of it is such that you’ll have no time or space for doing anything but all you can to move ahead. It is not a path that will cause one to lose his/her way because it only has one entrance, one direction and one trajectory which are forward and upward and one exit.

It is not well-worn. Yet it is well-travelled and tested by few who purpose to reach its one destination. The good thing is that those who have walked before and arrived to its final stop have left their own tips, advice, examples and instructions for navigating the path for you. These are their testimonies. And the Bible is its one road map.

The Path Is Lit.

The narrow path to eternal life is well-lit by the glory and presence of God. And when it gets dark, it is usually when we lose sight of Him. It is especially but by no means only then we have to look with eyes of faith that will help us discern the way. It is not for the faint of heart. But it gives rest to the feint.

It’s Not a Lonesome Journey

No one who travels this road walks alone all the way or arrives alone. The hurdles, tests, trials and obstacles strewn along the road are the very same training implements that help the traveler to develop spiritual muscles and endurance. It is not for those who are quick on their feet but those who are strong in their stance. And there are times when having done all, all we can do is “stand still and see the salvation of God.” There are also times in which we must be carried. That is when the journey becomes too hard to bear. And our support and security team which are the angels of God, are dispatched to “bear us up lest we dash our foot against a stone.”

The Road Is Not Easy

There is much wilderness territory we have to traverse and though the path is often parched and dry, we have been given living waters springing up unto life eternal. And also, the path is very frequently watered by many tears. It is filled with hills (ascents) and slopes and valleys (descents). There are many descents we must take. For the way of the Lord is one where up is considered to be down in His equation and the only way, many times, to become great is to know what it is to walk the slopes and valleys of heartache, trial, humiliation, loss and grief.

We know it is so, for we have seen the road Christ Himself walked.

Look Out For The Signs

But fortunately, this path is filled and strewn with signs (and wonders). Don’t forget! These will be the clear demonstrators that God is at work in your life and those of the others you travel with. These will provide well needed assurances that you are on the right path of faith and will confirm His power and might. There will be much mountainous terrain to traverse. You will almost always have to make temporary decelerations to show someone the way. And be assured, someone will be there to give you pointers and directions, because, it is really a team effort even though, you may have to walk different parts of the road alone in the sense that human presences may not always be around.

Continue On The Journey

Thankfully, as you progress, the way becomes clearer and you get to know the Lord better than you did before. Your faith grows stronger. You will walk with much more confidence in the outcome even though the way is still long. For there is a blinding light that shines at the end. And when you have reached the end, having walked this way but once and only once, it will be well worth the trip. So, go forth upon the narrow path that leads to eternal life

The Way to Life is made for all but only travelled by few.

So, there is space and room upon it enough for even sinful you.
